- Autoscaling is a cloud computing feature that enables organizations to scale cloud services such as server capacities or virtual machines up or down automatically, based on defined situations such as traffic ir utilization levels.
- Launch Configurations hold the instructions for the creation of new instances.
- Scaling Groups, on the other hand, manage the scaling rules and logic, which are defined in policies.
- Load balancing evenly distributes load to application instances in all availability zones in a region.
- Auto scaling makes sure instances scale up or down depending on the load.
- Target tracking scaling: We can increase or decrease the current capacity of the auto scaling group, based on the target value of a specific metric.
- Step scaling: Here, based on a set of scaling adjustments, we can increase or decrease the current capacity of the group that vary based on the size of the alarm breach.
- Simple scaling: Here we can increase or decrease the current capacity of the group based on a single scaling adjustment.
- If you specify scaling policies, then Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling can launch or terminate instances as demand on your application increases or decreases.
- Auto Scaling group has a minimum size of one instance, a desired capacity of two instances, and a maximum size of four instances.
- When you create a launch configuration, you specify information for the instances.
- Include the ID of the Amazon Machine Image (AMI), the instance type, a key pair, one or more security groups, and a block device mapping.
- The main difference between vertical and horizontal autoscaling in AWS is that in vertical autoscaling the capacity or size of the instance is increased as per demand.
- In horizontal autoscaling the number of instances (not the size) under the load balancer is increased as per requirement.
