- The OpenStack community does a good job of managing the documentation up-to-date and it's a good opening point. Even after you have used OpenStack for a while the documentation will also be demanded as references for specific tasks and deployment situations that you may not do regularly.
- There are MANY ways to acquire OpenStack. For me though, I went through Linux Academy. You can view as many books as possible, but you ultimately require hands-on, which is provided by Linux Academy via their labs. Much more affordable than others out there and a fabulous starting point! This is just the way I did it and it's changed for everyone.
- If you are particularly looking for a profession in cloud computing then YES it's a good opportunity. However, there are other emerging areas like IoT, machine learning, analytics, etc I believe you have already evaluated them.
- In cloud computing, if you require to get your hands dirty then there is no other better option than OpenStack since these are being open source and now easy to install.
- We have set up a tiny private cloud using OpenStack. We have 1 server on which OpenStack is installed and this machine powers 8 virtual instruments.
- We use cinder we are allocating further disk space to the users as and when required. By using glance we store the snapshot of VMs with the wanted applications installed.
- So, if we have to set up another machine, we could spawn a different VM using this snapshot. Thereby, a new VM is created in a couple of minutes with all the lacked applications installed and configured.
- For large data centers, it may create sense as you have the manpower to do custom arrangements and tweaks. For everyone else, Openstack doesn't make sense.
- For example, in storage, you still require a big controller and software to handle NAND wear and latency. All of that is proprietary (for example - Violin Memory arrays).
- On the edge, you're not running to go Openstack if you want performance. It's a consumption of time to pursue just to save 10% on white cases.
- First, the strong momentum in the Openstack community to containerize almost everything. Openstack originated the Magnum API service to support both Dockers and Kubernetes container orchestration engines. It makes a judgment that the experts behind Kubernetes get actively involved at this point.

I know many US-based retail giants have started the migration to Azure. Even Microsoft requires 95% of Fortune 500 organizations to use Azure
- Openstack is beneficial in developing any software-as-a-service (SAAS) applications, for new developments or to enhance existing solutions.
- Can serve as a firm foundation to perform self-service storage to IT users.
- Can deliver on-demand objective or block storage with tremendous scalability and easy-to-handle storage at lower charges.
- Most enterprises can save more significantly on licensing fees by switching virtual machines operating on VMware to OpenStack.
- OpenStack can be installed in a nested hypervisor environment because we only need the QEMU emulator for launching virtual machines inside the virtual machine. However, installing OpenStack on AWS EC2 instances is unlike the usual nested hypervisor setup, we will have to bypass a few restrictions for the OpenStack setup to work properly.
- For instance, AWS only allows the packets to flow in their network when the MAC address is known/registered in the AWS network environment.
- Also, the MAC location and the IP address are tightly outlined, as the AWS environment will not allow the container to flow if the MAC address recorded for the given IP address is different.
